Omaha, NE - The owner of the dog that attacked Charlotte Blevins three months ago will be sentenced in December. Tina Agerson pleaded no contest to several charges including harboring a dangerous dog. She could be sentenced to six months in jail and fined $500 on each of the charges.
Tina Agerson's dog Duke broke loose from his leash and attacked Charlotte as her mother pulled her in a wagon at 14th and Pine. Agerson gave up her rights to the dog and it was put down by the Nebraska Humane Society. The dog pulled part of Charlotte's scalp from her head, she has had several surgeries since the attack.
The attack prompted the debate over a pit bull ban in Omaha. The City Council is now considering a law that requires owners of dangerous dogs to control them, but it does not ban any breed of dog. The Council is expected to vote later this month.
