Omaha, NE.- A Capitol Hill fight over high gas prices is fueling the House race in Omaha.
Congressman Lee Terry is holding an "Energy Relief Rally". Terry's opponent Democrat Jim Esch call it a gimmick.
Terry is asking drivers to bring him their gasoline receipts. He says he'll take them back to Washington, hand them to Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and like a lot of other Republican Congressmen, demand a vote on an energy package.
That may be the easy part.
Action 3 News spoke with Terry about two controversial ideas aimed at helping tax payers.
One is the holiday gas tax. It's backed by John McCain, the man Terry wants in the White House, but Terry opposes. According to Terry it's a "short term solution."
Terry also opposes Barack Obama's call for a windfall profit tax on Big Oil. Obama wants to use the money to give families a thousand dollar rebate.
Terry is against it, "We can get a lot more money into the Treasury by opening up drilling as opposed to new taxes."
