Omaha, NE- Call it an ongoing mission of mercy, Christ Community Church is packaging more than 200-thousand meals to send to Koutiala, Mali.
The meals are headed to the Koutiala Hospital, which the church also helped build, to be served to needy patients. Many of the women and children treated at the hospital are too malnourished to take necessary medicines, or to receive vaccines. The meals help them build strength for treatment.
Volunteers worked all day Friday, and will work Saturday from 7am to 10pm to assemble the meals and pack them for shipping to Mali.
Organizers say it's an effort church members can easily support, about 900 are expected to volunteer over the two days.
Mali is a West African nation with a population of 12 million people. The average life span there is 45 years with a high infant mortality rate, according to Christ Community Church.
