LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - An audit says the Nebraska Highway Commission used state resources to solicit money for a golf outing, cocktails and dinner at 1 of the nicest facilities in the state.
In the audit released on Thursday, State Auditor Mike Foley says that the commission used state time and resources to collect $5,100 in contributions. Out of that, $3,150 was deposited in the state accounting system.
Some of the contributions came from engineering firms that do business with the state Department of Roads.
The social events for were held in conjunction with an official highway commission meeting at Lied Lodge in Nebraska City in June.
Highway Commissioner Rodney Vandeberg helped arrange the event and said he didn't see a problem with how contributions were solicited.
