Dogs and Cats Killed by Bow and Arrow

Council Bluffs, Iowa - Tonight, an alert for pet owners. Someone is targeting animals in our area. It's a cruel crime trend we're exposing. Bows, arrows, and bad intentions have left many families heartsick.

3 family pets are found struck with large arrows through them, all of the reports are from a small area of Iowa. It's a disturbing case of animal abuse, pets shot and left for dead. "I think it's a horrible way to die, it's just torture on animals," says DeAnn Fritsch. For Fritsch this torture hits home.

Helpless and panicking she reaches out to the Carson, Iowa vet clinic after finding her cat Lightning shot and suffering. The Carson vet clinic has actually received three calls in just six weeks owners frantic after they find their cats and dogs get this with an arrow shot right through them.

That's right, three family pets are blasted with a bow and arrow in the last six weeks. Fritsch's cat near Underwood, a husky chow mix north of Oakland, and an older woman's pet cat found dying out near Treynor. "She was crying, it was an older lady, and she was crying and she said her cat had been hit by an arrow," says Karen Coshow, with the Carson vet clinic.

There was nothing the vets could do, the arrows killed all three pets. "It's just real sad to see this happen, that's part of their family," says Coshow. For Fritsch, it's not just about losing Lightning, it's about stopping this cruel crime before it turns from pets to people. "What if a kid gets hit next time, what if it isn't just an animal, what if a child gets hit, then what," asks Fritsch.

The sheriff's office tells me they do have some reports, very few, but some, of livestock being killed during the hunting season but not pets. It was bow season when these animals were shot. If you have any information on who's doing this, call the Potawattamie county sheriff's office.
