Disagreement over who is to blame for the deadly crash of a U.S. Air commuter flight piloted by Shenandoah, IA native Marvin Renslow. Not surprisingly, according to a report in the Buffalo News, the airline blames the pilot while the pilot's union blames the airline. Both submitted reports on the crash to the NTSB on the deadly crash back in February. An initial investigation by the NTSB found Renslow pulled back on the stick after a stall warning when he should have pushed forward and added power.
The Air Line Pilots Association claims the situation was much more complicated. It alleged Colgan rushed the new Bombardier Q400's into service without adequate pilot training. According to the article, a video about flying in icing conditions that Colgan showed all its pilots showed the proper procedure for coming out of a tailplane stall, not a wing stall as the Colgan plane is believed to have experienced. That procedure was to pull back on the yoke as Renslow did.
Colgan claims Renslow's actions were counter to its training.
