A man is hit and killed near the sign that welcomes people to Oakland, IA at around 9:30pm Tuesday night.
Investigators say the car was heading northbound when it hit the man who was walking southbound. Paramedics arrived to find the victim's body laying motionless on the side of the road. He was reportedly barely breathing.
A medical helicopter was dispatched to the scene, but it was too late. CPR on the man was stopped before it had landed.
No word yet on whether speed or alcohol were factors in the crash. No charges have been filed, and the name of the victim has not yet been released.
