Omaha, NE - The H1N1 virus takes down a healthy man from Omaha. Things got so bad he wound up in a coma. Now, family and friends are taking action to help him battle back. In Council Bluffs they joined together at the Red Onion bar to raise money. But it's also helping with the emotional struggle.
Brent Geddings sister Heather Young says, "It was the hardest thing to see your brother laying on a hospital bed. The one that has always been there for you. The strength and everything else like that and so helpless."
Geddings caught the H1N1 Virus. Shortly after he couldn't make it on his own. The hospital put Geddings in a medical coma for 22 days.
His roommate Nathaniel Ellis says, "It's definitely different hearing about it on the news the when it hits right next to home."
Brent works in the service industry and like many others he doesn't have health insurance. It makes this tough situation, that much harder. That's why Monday night's benefit is so important.
Geddings' friend Sarah Dappen says, "Try to raise some money to try and get him back on his feet so he has that to not stress him out."
Geddings is awake now and recovering. His sister Heather Young says, "So we are on the right track. Hopefully we can get him home by Thanksgiving."
