NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (AP) - Western Nebraska is showing signs of recovery after a snowstorm dropped more than a foot of snow in some areas, causing road closures and power outages.
Stretches of Interstate 80 and U.S. Highway 30 from Big Springs west to the Wyoming state line reopened late Friday afternoon. Blowing snow had made travel hazardous.
Officials with a south-central Nebraska utility district also were making progress on restoring power to nearly 1,100 customers. Power was knocked out as snow piled up on lines, which were then shaken by wind gusting to 40 mph.
A news release from the Dawson Public Power District says crews restored power to more than 600 homes.
As of 5 p.m. Friday, about 400 customers remained without power in the Maxwell and Brady areas.
