Historic marker planned for Iowa home

Associated Press - August 30, 2009 4:04 AM ET

HAMPTON, Iowa (AP) - The Daughters of the American Revolution plan to grant an historic marker to a Franklin County home built from limestone and walnut in 1854.

Known as the Old Stone House, the building is southeast of Hampton near Maynes Creek. The marker is to be placed during a dedication on Sept. 12. Open house tours also are planned that day.

Fran Wullbrandt is a great-niece of a former resident of the home. Wullbrandt says the home fell out of repair and was taken over by Friends of the Old Stone House in 1979, when it was added to the National Register of Historic Places.

The group restored the home and this year it received a $40,000 grant from the Iowa Historic Society.
