CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (AP) - Authorities say a man accused of robbing a bank has died after he apparently hanged himself in his cell at the Linn County jail in Cedar Rapids.
The sheriff's office says jailers found 44-year-old Charles Ranson Jr., of Evansdale, unresponsive around 1 a.m. on Tuesday. He was taken to a Cedar Rapid hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Ranson was accused of robbing a bank in La Porte City in late June. He was being held in the Linn County jail for the U.S. Marshal's Service.
An autopsy is pending.
