HARRISON, Neb. (AP) - The former sheriff of Sioux County has been given 90 days in jail for filing a false stolen vehicle report.
On Tuesday morning, James Costello also was given 30 days for faking public documents, but the sentences are to be served at the same time.
Prosecutors say Costello broke the law in an attempt to help his daughter get a pickup awarded to his former son-in-law in a divorce settlement.
Costello resigned effective July 1. He is appealing his conviction.
Sioux County officials are looking for his replacement and is taking applications through July 31.
The county is in the northwest corner of Nebraska's Panhandle.
