Iowa - It all started when a family friend wanted to cheer up a little boy battling cancer. She went on a mission, and 20-thousand "get well" cards later, the "Max-A-Million" campaign is going strong!
A trip to the post office is a jolt of inspiration for Max Low. Action 3 News followed him to the post office one morning, and a bundle of 20 "get well" cards awaited the ten-year-old.
After three years of treatment, Max's cancer relapsed. It's something his family wasn't prepared for, but it's the cards that keep them going.
"When you receive a bunch of cards, how does that make you feel?" Action 3 News reporter Chriss Knight asked the 10-year-old. He responded with a simple, "good!"
Inside Max's home is box after box full of inspiring words.
"I wish the best of luck to you and your family and get well soon," Max's mother Bambi read one of her favorites. "The real definition of a hero is someone who you can look up to. So I think it's safe to say that you are my hero."
So far, Max has 20-thousand cards from friends, family, and complete strangers from all around the world. Now he's on a mission to collect one-million of them!
"Help support Max and his dream," pleaded his mom.
Some of the cards make them laugh; others make them cry. But they all show the family they aren't alone in Max's fight against leukemia.
"It means alot to us, especially for Max," Bambi said, "To put that smile on his face. That's what counts."
