Sam Thomsen Hoped to be a Minister

Omaha, NE - Family of 13-year-old-year Sam Thomsen say they're overwhelmed by the support they're getting from the community. Sam would have celebrated his 14th birthday on Monday. Now his family is left mourning his death.

A Boy Scout with dreams of becoming a minister. But Sam Thomsen's life was cut short Wednesday evening when a tornado ripped through his camp.

"It's a big hole to fill. It can't be filled," said Sam's mother Sharon.

Sam was home-schooled by his parents who adopted him when he was just an infant.

Sam loved sports. Just last week he and his father cheered on the Creighton baseball team. It was a chilly night, but that didn't matter.

"Toward the end of the game I told him we can go if you want. No, I'm ok, he said. We can stay til the end. We stayed til the end," Sam's father, Larry said.

What seemed like an ordinary night with his son, is now a moment in life that Sam's father will hold on to forever.

"Hug your kids. Something like this really brings things home. Don't take anything for granted."

Sam's mother believes her son's memory will live on in the people who's lives he touched.

"It's been a real blessing to see all the people that Sam impacted just rallying around us. It's very touching to hear all the stories. We know he had a purpose he has a purpose still," his mother said.

Sam loved going to boy scout camp and was working to become an Eagle Scout.
