Lincoln, NE - A Democrat from western Nebraska will take on a former Governor for Nebraska's open U.S. Senate seat. In Tuesday's Primary, Scott Kleeb easily beat Tony Raimondo and two other challengers for the democratic nomination.
Kleeb will face Mike Johanns in the November general election. Johanns ran away with the republican nomination, ahead of political newcomer Pat Flynn. Johanns, a former U.S. Agriculture Secretary, hopes to replace fellow Republican Chuck Hagel, who is not seeking re-election.
Fresh off his victory on Tuesday night, Kleeb repeated one theme over and over. That theme is change. "Washington can't change Nebraska," Kleeb said. "But Nebraska can change Washington."
While Kleeb promises to change Washington, Mike Johanns is pushing experience. "If you believe we need to fix Washington," Johanns says, "Come join our campaign."
Mike Johanns has already raised more than two-million dollars for his campaign. Kleeb says no matter how much Johanns can raise, he believes it will come down to the voters' desire to change the "policies of the past."
