Damage From Beacon Hill Fire Estimated To Be $1 Million

Omaha, NE - Fire officials estimate the damage from Saturday's two-alarm fire at Beacon Hills to be one million dollars.

Meanwhile, more than 40 people are trying to figure out their next move after losing everything to the fire.  A combination of strong winds and fire quickly destroyed part of an apartment building at Beacon Hill Apartments located near 90th and Maplwood Blvd.

The day after the fire, some people had nothing to come back to, while other victims, like Cathy Olmsted and Ken Backhus, picked up and breathed a sigh of relief.  "This is my fourth fire, so you kind of get used to it," says Olmsted.  The couple lives in the part of the building that wasn't destroyed, but they still have to move out because there is no running water or power.  Olmsted and Backhus are planning to get married in three weeks.  In addition to planning a wedding, they are now trying to find a new place to live.

Fire investigators tell us the cause is under investigation. There were no injuries as a result of the fire.
