Omaha, NE - The Lexington teacher charged with taking a 13-year-old student to Mexico cried in federal court this afternoon and pleaded not guilty.  23-year-old Kelsey Peterson is charged with taking a minor across state lines for sex.  She was arrested in Mexico with 13-year-old Fernando Rodriguez.  Rodriguez is still in Mexico because he is not a legal resident of the United States.  If she's convicted on the federal charge, Peterson could get 10 years to life in prison. She also faces state charges.

Peterson has been fired from her teaching job and her daughter has been placed in the temporary custody of her father.
