Omaha, NE - For two hours on Tuesday, a new eight member committee talked and talked about a new ballpark, but today Mayor Fahey confirms no one mentioned a citywide vote, "No we didn't discuss that issue."
Committee chairman Ken Stinson says the public is not being ignored, "We all have the same goals here, finding the right location, the right cost and financing, and building a community consensus."
But community fights are already brewing. "we have over 14 thousand signatures on a petition," says Jason Smith, a member of the Save Rosenblatt Committee.
The Rosenblatt crowd isn't happy, and neither are the folks who run the Qwest Center.
When the mayor recently recommended a $116 million ballpark be built on parking lot "D" at the Qwest center, the Qwest board members, including former Mayor Hal Daub, said no, "I think this should be done with a vote of the people." Action 3 News Reporter Joe Jordan asked Mayor Fahey, "He (Daub) wants a vote, a public vote, is he going to get one? I don't think Hal proposed having a public vote on a new Marriot Hotel he proposed for about $180 million, that's not what leaders do," answered the Mayor.
