Omaha, Ne.- Can a parking lot stall a new home for the College World Series? That question is still standing at City Hall.
24 hours ago Action 3 News first reported that any plans to keep the Series at Rosenblatt Stadium face a severe uphill fight, because several months ago the NCAA told the City to look at "other possibilities."
That led Mayor Mike Fahey to propose a new $116 million downtown ballpark, located on Parking Lot "D" at the Qwest Center.
Qwest officials, led by David Sokol, insist they will fight any move by the City to put the park in Lot "D." According to Sokol, "The City does not have the legal right to utilize Lot "D" pursuant to MECA's (the Qwest Center's governing body) 99-year lease with the City."
But the Mayor says he "...respectfully disagrees, that that land belongs to the citizens of Omaha." Fahey says its premature to even think about a court fight.
