TeKippe Found Guilty For Stealing Drugs From An Evidence Room

Updated:

Council Bluffs, IA - A man who helped put criminals away in Iowa, could now be headed for prison as well.  On Friday, a jury found a former assistant Pottawattamie County Attorney guilty of stealing drugs from a police evidence room.  Jeff TeKippe was convicted on all of the charges he faced, including stealing cocaine from an evidence room.

During the trial, TeKippe admitted to flushing evidence down a toilet.  His attorney says TeKippe had the legal right to do that as a County Attorney.  The prosecution says it found cocaine residue on baggies at TeKippe's house, proving he stole the missing drug evidence.

TeKippe now faces a sentence of ten or more years in prison and more than $10,000 in fines. He was found guilty on nine counts of theft, two counts of misconduct in the office and one count of possessing cocaine.

The Iowa Attorney Generals Office released a statement saying, "We are most concerned when, in using his office to committ a crime, a lawyer violates the high demands of honor and integrity that attach to the office of public prosecutor."

TeKippe's sentencing is set for October 24th.
