Homeowners Try to Recover From Flood Threat

Posted:

Western Douglas County, NE - King Lake residents are coming home and realizing just how much damage the floods have left behind.

"My house looks awful," says Lydia Adcock, as she stands outside of her home.  You can see where the flood waters hit her home from the overflowing Elkhorn River.  While it crested over a week ago, water still covers roads in the area.

So far, Douglas County sheriff's deputies say about 168 properties have been inspected in King Lake.  Thirty-three have been declared unsafe.

The Red Cross and The Salvation Army volunteers are giving health checks and handing out sunscreen and food to both people and their pets.

But what they can't do is pick up the pieces.  That's what Adcock says the families in that area will try to do now.
