Prescription Drug Kills Couple in Apartment

Omaha, NE - Eaten, injected, snorted or smoked, Fentanyl can be deadly. Investigators say the prescription drug, 100 times stronger than morphine, killed Robert Bordelon and Sandra Brown. Both were found dead in their apartment in early January.

"We have reason to believe that they knew that they were taking Fentanyl. Obviously they didn't know that they were taking a lethal dose," says Chief Deputy Marty Bilek with the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.

Users often mix Fentanyl with Cocaine, Heroin and other recreational drugs. This time, the sheriff's office says it killed in it's pure form.

"It wasn't like it was a bag of powder or something that we didn't know it's origin. We knew that it started out as prescription Fentanyl."

Prescription Fentanyl regularly comes in a three day patch. It's prescribed to people in chronic pain who develop a tolerance to Morphine. With the discovery of such a potentially deadly drug being used to get high, law enforcement is worried.

"We don't know how much Fenatnyl is illegally here in Douglas County."

If more Fentanyl is being dealt illegally in the shadows, investigators fear Bordelon and Brown's deaths might be the first of a growing body count. The Douglas County Sheriff's Office says both Bordelon and Brown also had a number of illegal and prescription drugs in their system. An investigation is underway to find and lock up the person who sold the couple Fentanyl.
