Omaha, NE - Ask Terry Harrington, he'll tell you dreams do come true. After nearly a seven year court battle he agreed to a 12-million dollar settlement.
Pottawattamie county settled his civil rights lawsuit alleging prosecutors fabricated and concealed evidence.
"Quality of life makes a big difference from this point forward. You say it's a lot of money, they took a lot of my life," says Terry Harrington.
Convicted of killing a retired Council Bluffs police officer in 1977 when he was only 16 years old, Harrington spent 26 years in prison before the Iowa Supreme Court vacated his conviction. With a good chunk of change in his back pocket, Harrington's starting to enjoy his freedom.
"What vindicates me at this point is the fact that I can get on with my life."
Rather than setting goals, he's keeping the future wide open.
"I want the next 25 years of my life to be better than the last 25," says Harrington. The battle for Harrington still isn't over. He has another lawsuit pending against Council Bluffs and the police department.
