Neb. city draws federal grant for treatment plant

Associated Press - December 1, 2009 6:25 AM ET

KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) - The Environmental Protection Agency has awarded more than $520,000 to help fund a Wayne, Neb., wastewater treatment plant project.

A news release from the EPA says the northeast Nebraska city's 25-year-old facility continues to draw complaints about odor. The new treatment plant will address those concerns.

Construction on the $8 million project is slated to begin in July. The project is scheduled for completion in the fall of 2011.

Garry Poutre (POO-tree), Wayne's utilities and public works superintendent, says the new plant will operate more efficiently and produce less sludge.
