Omaha, NE - A healthy dose of hope for kids and parents. Action 3 News was there as some Omaha doctors and health care experts stepped up for children who don't have access to affordable health care.
For several hours on Saturday morning, they gave free physicals and health exams to kids who came to the Omaha Public Schools TAC Building.
The childrens' parents were thrilled to get hundreds of dollars worth of health care for free, including school physicals.
Creighton University nurses, doctors and medical staff volunteered their time to make sure no child is left behind when it comes to health.
"People who work here love kids," says Dr. Theresa Townley. "It's always exciting to see kids."
It's all part of a youth health extravaganza put on by Creighton for students from Kindergarten to the 12th grade.
"We're trying to offer dental screenings and hemoglobin checks. We're also making sure kids get their blood pressure checks, their BMI's, all things that can be problems for children," says Dr. Townley.
Some of the sticks, pricks and pressure made kids feel a little uneasy. But they gave the families of about 500 kids, some peace of mind.
