LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - The average SAT scores of Nebraska high school students who graduated this year far outpaced the national average.
Figures were released Tuesday by the College Board, which administers the SAT.
Only about 1,000 Nebraska students took the college entrance exam sometime before graduating this past spring, compared with the more than 16,000 who took the rival ACT exam.
The 2009 Nebraska graduates' average reading score of 587 on the SAT was 86 points higher than the 501 national average. Graduates' average math score of 594 was 79 points higher than the 515 national average.
On the writing portion, Nebraska graduates scored 572, much higher than the 493 national average score.
Each section has a maximum score of 800.
