Omaha, NE - A 17th century painting of the Virgin Mary, stolen from Saint Cecilia's Cathedral in March of 2007, is worth an estimated $100,000. Now, we know who stole the painting. Even more disturbing, we know why.
39-year-old Aurelio Vallecillo-Sanchez was convicted on Friday of felony theft and first degree sexual assault. Authorities say he stole the painting to help finance an abortion for a teen he raped. Vallecillo-Sanchez sold the painting in Mexico for a reported $3,000, but the 14-year old didn't have an abortion. She returned to Nebraska after giving birth. Vallecillo-Sanchez will be sentenced in October. He faces up to 70 years in prison.
