OMAHA, Neb. (AP) - Sen. Ben Nelson says he's still not ready to make a decision on whether he'll vote to confirm U.S. Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor.
Nelson, the lone Democrat in Nebraska's five-member congressional delegation, said Wednesday he will make his decision next week, when the Senate is scheduled to vote on the confirmation.
Most Republicans have come out against Sotomayor, including Nebraska's Sen. Mike Johanns, who cited his concern that she could not set aside her biases and decide cases impartially.
During a telephone conference Wednesday with reporters, Nelson said he needs time to convince himself that Sotomayor "won't be an activist" on the Supreme Court.
Nelson says other, more pressing issues have taken precedence this week.
